Why a School Code of Conduct is important?

To ensure the best education

Students’ Responsibilities

  1. Attend school regularly.
  2. Participate in special activities.
  3. Contact school to explain absence (Phone call or note from the parents).
  4. All students must report to the office before they leave school for any reason.

Helping Strategies

  1. Take attendance every day.
  2. Phone parents for absence on a daily basis.
  3. Send letters to parents for non-motivated absences.
  4. Student should have a note or appointment card; If ill, a call will be made to a parent or guardian.

Consequences

Absenteeism procedures:

  1. Parents will be contacted daily to confirm reason for child’s absence.
  2. If absenteeism is persistent, a meeting will be arranged to discuss the problem. Youth Protection Services could be contacted.
  3. If a student misses more than 30% or 20 days per term the assessment/ evaluation cannot be completed.

To ensure moral and physical safety

Students’ Responsibilities

 

  • Respect everyone’s rights.
  • Walk safely at permitted time.
  • Put personal property in a safe place.
  • Respect all school rules.
  • Remove roller blades upon entry through gym corridor door.

Helping Strategies

  1. Every person in school or on its grounds is deserving of courtesy and respect.
  2. Disrespect or defiance is not tolerated.
  3. Discipline Program.

To create a dynamic learning environment

Students’ Responsibilities

  1. Be punctual.
  2. Participate in the class.
  3. Have all required school materials.
  4. Complete work on time.
  5. Stay on task.
  6. Use polite words.
  7. Be honest.
  8. Take care of school property.

Helping Strategies

  1. Sleep and eat well.
  2. Ask questions when required.
  3. Prepare material before class.
  4. Do the homework.
  5. Get along with others.
  6. Avoid cheating and plagiarism.

Consequences

  1. Study Policy: Students who do not complete assignments on time can expect to receive a letter, which parents must sign to acknowledge the situation.
  2. Academic Honesty Policy is adopted by the school and required by the MEESR.
  3. Fees will be charged for any lost or damaged school property.

To promote personal expression

Students’ Responsibilities

  1. Respect everyone’s differences.
  2. Dress appropriately
  3. Leggings need to be covered, no headgear permitted in school.
  4. The use of personal electronic devices is reserved for certain times and places in the school.

Helping Strategies

  1. Be kind.
  2. Think before acting or speaking.
  3. Use your electronic devices only when and where they are permitted.

Consequences

  1. Suspension.
  2. Participation in any extra-curricular activity, field trip or school dance can be cancelled.
  3. Confiscation of electronic device, parents contacted. Sanctions including retention of the device may be used.
